Thaipusam

Starting from Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple

A Hindu festival which is moslty celebrated by the Tamil community on a full moon on the Tamil month of January/Februray. The word Thaipusam itself stands for Month and Star, Thai the month, and Pusam the star. The significant star will be at its highest point during the festival.

The traditional believe of the Thaipusam celebration is the victory of Murugan over the demon Soorapadman who has been given a spear to defeat him by Parvati.

In Singapore the festival will start during the early morning hours from the
Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple from where the devotees are commencing the
4 kilometer walk to Sri Thendayuthapani Temple. If you are lucky enough to be in Singapore during this event, there will be an interesting sight to admire. You can see people carrying milk pods on their heads, and devotees with spikes pierced through their bodys.
